GLOSSARY OF TERMS
-
Club Trim (CT) – a CT is a trim line that extends medially along the foot to encompass the first metatarsal to block Adduction of the foot. USES: Clubfoot condition, supination, forefoot adductus

-
Reverse Club Trim (RCT)- a RCT is a trim line that extends laterally along the foot to encompass the 5th metatarsal to block Abduction of the foot. USES: over pronation, forefoot abductus conditions.

-
First Ray Extension (FRE)(Morten’s extension) - a FRE is a trim that we use to manipulate the center of pressure of the foot to induce supinatory posturing of the foot from mid stance to terminal stance of gait. Also functions as a low-profile FF post. USES: Conditions of Flexible over- pronation of the foot.

-
P/F First Ray Cutout (FRC)- a FRC is a trim that we use to manipulate the center of pressure of the foot to induce pronatory posturing of the foot from mid stance to terminal stance of gait. Also functions as a low-profile lateral FF post. USES: Conditions of a supinated foot, trim is used to unwind the foot into pronation. Best results occur when using tuning in conjunction.

-
Reverse Toe Plate (RTP)– a RTP trim is typically used to in thought to block pronation and medial collapse as the FRE does. However, its function and trims mimic the FRC trim lines and Biomechanics.

-
DMC / PASS Open Heel – this trim is used when Hind foot alignment is stable. The soft heel allows for heel loading and a normalization of the Load Response at Heel strike.

-
Laminated plastic – This is a process where as poly propylene s laminated with an outer skin of Co-polymer to create a new more rigid plastic at least 10% stronger then the individual two plastics by themselves. "POLY-CO"

-
Reinforced Foot Plate –Process above but only applied to the plantar aspect of the foot shell.

-
Banjo Strap – a padded inside directional pull ankle strap. Typical placement is on the 45- running medially from the ST to between the medial maleolus and the navicular. Laterally, on the 45 through the cuboidal notch. Variations can be done based on individual patient issues and conditions.

-
Max Control Strap – Typically used with a Banjo strap, it too is an inside directional pull strap but it is placed just Supra Malleolar to maximize the directional force but at reduced pressure to the leg.

-
Supra-Malleolar Strap – Is typically used in place of an ankle strap for Donning of the AFO. It is non directional.

-
Anterior Midline Trim - also termed as a full solid ankle , the medial and lateral trim line are anterior to the AP midline of the leg.

-
Sandwich Top Cover (STC) – foam top cover that is typically used with Proximal to metatarsal trims by incorporating a 65 durometer 1/6” layer on the bottom which sandwiches the plastic providing rigidity preventing top cover form rolling under during donning of the orthosis.

-
Split Front Floor Reaction (Transformer) - Originally designed to be a progressive design that allowed for conversion to standard AFO on CVA Patients with knee buckling and beginner ambulators in children. provides better anterior and posterior control and allows for a better fit on very skinny legs.

-
MCL 655 LIMITER - Designed as a training stop which allows adjustable plantar flexion and dorsiflexion ROM limitation to be set. original design was typical set up with a Transformer trim line above
-
STATIC ADJUSTABLE JOINT/STOP - Designed to make a rigid AFO adjustable in Dorsiflexion /Plantarflexion and varus / valgus depending on whether 1, 2 or 3 joint components are used. ROM adjustability up to 20 degrees can be attained.

-
DUEL STAGE KAFO- Component that allows for the AFO section to be easily detached and reattached to the knee joints and thigh allowing the AFO to be used alone
